The Mole: Episode Two

[I have a sneaking suspicion the power could go out again due to the sporadically massive thunderstorms we're getting, so that'll explain why this might be posted tomorrow.]

Don’t read this post if you want to avoid spoilers for The Mole.

I’m starting to pick up a theme with this season’s Mole: religion. There has been a number of religious pictures and sets utilized so far. I recall seeing a shot of the Virgin Mary (hmm… immaculate conception… a very mole-ish OBGYN doctor on the show?) in the first episode. The opening for this episode relies on several of those confessional-type scenes with, surprise surprise, a confession booth in the back.

Craig’s confession is in front of a different section of the room (or different room entirely) with candles burning behind his head. There were four on the left and four on the right with his head in the middle. (He moved his body at one point to reveal at least one more candle behind his head.) This is exactly like a Hanukkah Menorah. What is up with that? And why do would they switch backgrounds like that (Craig’s was the only one with that background, the two other were filmed in front of said booth)?

They did this during the other confessions later in the episode. There was this one painting in the background that I think you could see fully in only one person’s confession but only partially in the others. I wish I knew the name/history behind the painting since I’m sure it’s there for a reason.

Lastly, I didn’t quite catch the name of the summit, but there was a God-like figure at the mountain. It reminded me of the Jesus statue in Brazil.

I’m sad to see Liz go. She was a lot of fun, and I don’t think I ever suspected her. I was also kind of sad to see Marcie go last week since she had a tough challenge (being first an’ all), but, in all honesty, she really chose poorly for the challenge — at least with the general belief that the more athletic-looking people should be assumed to have a better chance of winning.

This week’s episode confused me. It seems Bobby is the obvious choice to be mole. He claims he has a pretty decent soccer history (”99% better” than the other contestants, if I’m not mistaken) yet he got really tired during the match and final challenge, where it became downright pathetic, oh, and that weird pirate competition an episode earlier? He says he gets tired — even though he looks to be in decent shape and healthy — and that would be a really cheap, obvious tactic to use as a mole, so I’m not convinced.

I am, however, finding Clay more and more suspicious. I don’t know why.

Nicole’s last comment was really random. Correct me if I’m wrong, but didn’t she say something like, “I’m going to kill you in your sleep” and how she’d “leave no forensic evidence”? What the hell!? But on the other hand, it’s not a bad idea for her to suggest she’s here just to beat someone in the game, than actually ‘win’ it. Seems like something the mole would say.
